Job Hunting Kit

So, I think it's fair to say that most of us aren't learning React just for fun, as a hobby. We're studying it for our careers. Maybe you're looking to break into the tech industry, or maybe you're already working as a developer, but looking to modernize your skills so that you can land a better job.

It's been said that looking for a job is a job in itself, and this is frustratingly true in tech. Before making an offer, companies have you run through a gauntlet of challenges. It can feel like a never-ending quest in an RPG. Tackle the phone screen, then build the take-home project, then do the “culture fit” interview, then ace the technical interview…

In this special bonus section of the course, I'm going to share some of the tips and tricks I've learned about getting through this process. I'll be drawing from my own experience, as someone who has worked for half a dozen tech companies, but also from my experience as a career coach.

I used to teach web development fundamentals at a local coding bootcamp, and part of my role there was as a career coach. I'd work with recent graduates to help them land their first role, reviewing their portfolio, helping them write cover letters, running mock technical interviews, stuff like that.

I've also spent quite a bit of time on the other side of the table, reviewing applications, interviewing candidates and seeing how decisions get made.

And so, my goal in this section is to compile what I've learned across these experiences, to hopefully improve your chances of making it through the job-hunting process, coming out the other end with a job offer.
